Ride for Transitional Housing with ICNA Relief
On September 12, 2020, Ahmad Family Foundation is partnering with ICNA Relief to raise funds for transitional housing for women in need. The cycling event is limited to Velocipede Cycling Team cyclists due to the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing guidelines. COVID-19 impacts more than health. Financial and economic uncertainty make it especially difficult for people to get back on their feet and secure housing.
Even before the pandemic, finding a place to stay for victims of domestic violence or women breaking away from an unhealthy living environment was limited. Many shelter programs are small operations and are already at maximum capacity. Coupled with the problem that those shelters don't have space is they do not offer residents guidance on how to become independent and secure housing on their own in the future. Transitional housing led by community groups like ICNA Relief aim to support residents in employment and/or education assistance, housing advocacy, childcare, economic guidance and legal advocacy if needed.
In the September 12th cycling event, cyclists will take to the roads of Southern Maryland and ride 60, 100 or 200 miles to earn pledges for ICNA Relief's transitional housing program. You can select a cyclist you know or choose one at random and make your donation at the link below. Our own co-founder Omar F. Ahmad, M.D. will be cycling with the team.
To support ICNA Relief in reaching their goal AFF will match earnings over $2,000 for any cyclist who earns over $2,000 in donations, up to a total of $10,000 total. If you see someone getting close to the mark, help them earn our donation. We endorse ICNA Relief as a top charity in putting funds toward much needed programs and having low overhead costs. Please consider donating to this worthy cause.
